Expose all scams and fraudulent practices in Web3!!!
The following content is based on personal experiences and aims to provide warnings ⚠️ for both beginners and experienced individuals, serving as a cautionary tale to learn diligently and act cautiously!
1. Social Media#
Adding Friends via C2C or WeChat Groups#
Scammers often showcase fake profit records in WeChat Moments, claiming to continuously profit from contract trading on major exchanges while flaunting luxury cars and watches. When you question your own losses, a private message from them is the beginning of a trap. They will then propose profit-sharing schemes where you bear the losses, and profits need to be shared; or they will lure you into unregulated exchanges, making it impossible to recover your funds.
TG or X Ads for Arbitrage (Illegal)#
1. Single exchange rate can go up to 1:2, all of which are non-redeemable, directly siphoning off funds.#
2. Impersonating official mining pools, using agents and high returns to attract participants.#
Such automatic group pulling behaviors are common on Telegram TG, with group names mimicking official ones, enticing people to join through agents and high returns. Once you participate, you will be blacklisted.
3. Fake USDT scams, assuming you agree to exchange, the other party may send fake USDT to your wallet. It is recommended to use the OKX wallet directly, as real USDT will appear in the asset list without needing to add any contract addresses.#
USDT token contract address on Ethereum (ETH) chain: 0xdac17f958d2ee523a2206206994597c13d831ec7
USDT token contract address on TRON (TRX) chain: TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t
USDT token contract address on BTC (OMNI) chain: 1NTMakcgVwQpMdGxRQnFKyb3G1FAJysSfz
USDT token contract address on TRON (TRC-20) chain: TU9mNrsFuBLnjN2aUHS3onUbJHK8UPZauE
USDT token contract address on Algorand (ALGO) chain: PCFJdYZoHUDvzyTFi3tuX11DVjpkxHSu9KUAiWbDcW
USDT token contract address on Arbitrum (ETH) Layer 2 network: 0xfd086bc7cd5c481dcc9c85ebe478a1c0b69fcbb9
USDT token contract address on Polygon (MATIC) Layer 2 network: 0x7ceB23fD6bC0adD59E62ac25578270cFf1b9f619
2. On-chain Scams#
Tools Require Private Keys#
When using personally developed tools, it is advisable to operate with a new wallet. For on-chain trading tools, aggregation tools, or airdrop assistance tools, if they require importing private keys or mnemonic phrases, handle with extreme caution. Only use wallets with no funds or completely avoid such operations.
Wallet Authorization#
- Friends you meet on Web3 may actually be scammers. Criminals approach under the guise of exchange fees, initially making small transfers to build trust, then sending a payment code (which is actually an authorization code). Once authorized, the wallet funds will be emptied.
- It is common in groups for someone to post mnemonic phrases, claiming the wallet has assets but lacks Gas fees (like ETH or TRX). If you recharge Gas fees, the funds will instantly disappear, becoming a bottomless pit (they use multi-signature wallets or technical means).
Signal Providers#
- Someone in the group boasts about fake profits or KOL signal providers, which are actually manipulative operations.
- Paying to join groups is a common form of scamming; it is advisable to invest time in independent research.
3. Virus Files#
TG Sending Virus Files#
If you receive a file from a stranger via TG private message (such as named bill, mnemonic phrase, or wallet password), do not click it. Once opened, the virus will infect your computer, requiring immediate system reinstallation or device replacement.
TG Message Verification for Account Theft#
Impersonating official TG accounts may send private messages claiming account anomalies, requesting verification. Do not click any verification links received; TG accounts typically do not have anomalies, otherwise, it may lead to account theft.
Chat Virus Software#
Downloading fake chat software may implant viruses. Always confirm the official source when obtaining software and verify any download links multiple times.
4. Impersonating Well-known Exchanges or Projects#
Criminals lurk in official communities, using avatars and names similar to official personnel.
Guiding Transfers#
When asking questions in official groups, they may proactively private message to guide transfer operations.
Early Investment#
Impersonators in Web3 groups may private message offering early investment opportunities, requiring direct transfers to obtain (funds disappear after transfer).
Replying to Fake Websites Under Genuine Official Tweets#
During airdrop inquiries or claims, fake links may appear in the replies under official tweets. Clicking and authorizing the wallet will lead to fund theft.
Receiving Non-official SMS Requesting Verification Links#
The phone number bound to the exchange may receive fake verification SMS. Clicking the link may result in the loss of funds in the exchange account.
5. Impersonating Friends to Borrow U#
Friend's Account Hacked#
If a friend's Twitter or TG account is hacked, they may private message to borrow U or request transfers. Always confirm identity via phone.
Modifying Avatar and Name to Impersonate Friends#
TG and DC platforms can be chaotic, requiring repeated identity confirmation via WeChat.
Using AI Face Swap Videos to Lower Guard#
When receiving a selfie video (AI face swap) requesting a transfer, you must call to confirm identity.
6. Disguised Defi Projects with High APR#
While there are many opportunities in the crypto space, Defi high APR projects are complex. Beginners are easily misled, and overly relying on external investments is unwise.
Pig Butchering#
Private messages offering high APR returns (like 1% daily) are actually Ponzi schemes, participation will lead to principal losses.
Gambling#
Claiming that gambling websites have loopholes, allowing for hedging arbitrage to gain high returns. The actual goal is to siphon off principal.
IDO#
Inducing participation in IDO early investments often results in total loss or becoming a stepping stone. Token prices plummet after issuance.
In summary, opportunities do not fall from the sky; great opportunities come with great risks. This article is a summary based on personal experience, and additional scams are welcome to be added. Wishing everyone successful investments.
